“We have been pleased to see Uganda reach a significant milestone in tackling the most recent Ebola outbreak recently.
“Uganda has reported no new confirmed Ebola cases since 21 June 2026, has discharged its last patient, and has entered the 42-day countdown toward declaring the outbreak over. Surveillance remains active across 36 high-risk districts and 38 points of entry.“These milestones have greatly improved the epidemiological situation for the country.
“Uganda is testament to the professionalism, transparency and speed of the country's public health response. Showcasing exactly the kind of outbreak management the international community encourages - rapid detection, robust surveillance, comprehensive contact tracing and open reporting.
“Africa CDC's call for the United States to review its temporary entry restrictions is both timely and evidence-based.”
“For Uganda's tourism sector, a review of the current restrictions would represent an important step towards restoring traveller confidence and would boost its economy. It would also reinforce the principle: that countries which act responsibly and transparently during public health events should be supported, not disadvantaged.
“ATTA® will continue to monitor developments closely and provide members with the latest updates. We remain confident in Uganda's long-term tourism outlook and commend the authorities, healthcare workers and communities whose efforts have brought the country to this point."
