Tanzania will host the second United Nations Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa in Arusha from 23-25 April 2025. The event will bring together over 300 delegates from across Africa and beyond to explore the role of food tourism in driving economic growth and preserving cultural heritage. The forum, to be officially opened by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, aims to strengthen the local culinary industry, which is closely tied to Tanzania’s agricultural sector.

Speaking at a press briefing, Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Pindi Chana, highlighted the forum’s potential to support skills development and investment in gastronomy tourism. Delegates will experience a diverse range of dishes from Tanzania’s 120 ethnic groups while discussing ways to expand culinary tourism and training for local chefs. Industry stakeholders are encouraged to use the platform to promote traditional and natural foods, with UN Tourism representatives emphasising the forum as an opportunity to showcase Africa’s rich flavours to a global audience.
