Tanzania's New Aviation Training Centre to Target 10bn/- Annual Revenue from International Students

Tanzania's Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) is projecting annual revenue of over 10 billion Tanzanian shillings from international student enrolment at its new Civil Aviation Training Centre (CATC), scheduled for completion in July 2028. The facility, valued at approximately 78 billion shillings, is designed to expand the centre's student capacity from around 2,000 to between 7,000 and 10,000, with a significant portion of demand expected from international applicants across Africa and beyond. TCAA Director General Salim Msangi noted that the current facility's limited capacity has constrained international intake - a gap the new centre is directly intended to address.

Currently generating around 2 billion shillings annually, the expanded CATC is expected to more than fivefold its revenue upon completion, positioning Tanzania as a competitive hub for aviation training on the continent. The project received a visit from Tanzania's Parliamentary Standing Committee on Infrastructure on 16 March 2026, with committee members expressing satisfaction at construction progress while directing authorities to ensure timely completion and adequate workers' welfare. The centre will train skilled aviation professionals including air traffic controllers and technical personnel - a workforce critical to supporting safe operations, regional air traffic growth, and the broader aviation and tourism sectors across East Africa.
