Tanzania's Mandatory Travel Insurance Implementation Update

We would like to share an important update to Tanzania’s entry requirements. Effective 1 October 2026, travellers entering Tanzania will be required to obtain the new mandatory inbound travel insurance applicable to their first point of entry into Tanzania.

To help ensure a smooth arrival experience, we strongly recommend that travellers purchase the appropriate policy online before departure.

Pricing Summary

Adults 18+: USD 44
Children 3 - 17: USD 22
Infants 0 - 2: Free
Groups of 10+ adults: 10% discount on the adult premium

Effective date: 1 October 2026
Validity: Up to 92 days, including multiple entries
Purchase: Online before travel is strongly recommended
Coverage: Emergency medical treatment, medical evacuation, repatriation and loss of luggage

The insurance certificate is issued shortly following successful payment, typically within a few minutes.

Any private travel or medical insurance already held by the traveller does not replace this mandatory inbound policy, which is a separate government entry requirement for Tanzania.

Which Policy Should Your Clients Purchase?

Travellers whose first point of entry is Mainland Tanzania, should purchase the mandatory insurance through the official NIC portal here.

Travellers whose first point of entry is Zanzibar, should purchase the mandatory insurance through the official ZIC portal here.

For itineraries combining Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, only one policy is required, based on the traveller’s first point of entry.
