Tanzania Rallies Tourism Sector Behind 8 Million Visitor Target
The Tanzanian government has called on tourism stakeholders to work closely with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism to achieve its ambitious target of attracting eight million international tourists by 2030. Speaking at a consultative meeting on the ministry's 2026/27–2030/31 Five-Year Strategic Plan, officials stressed that collaboration between the public and private sectors will be essential to growing tourism's contribution to the national economy. The strategy aligns with Tanzania Development Vision 2050 and outlines clear priorities, implementation plans and performance measures to guide the sector's growth.
The plan focuses on expanding Tanzania's tourism offering beyond traditional wildlife safaris by investing in cultural, historical, beach, conference and sports tourism, while strengthening digital marketing, tourism infrastructure, conservation and high-value investment. Stakeholders welcomed the comprehensive strategy and pledged their support, reinforcing the government's vision of positioning Tanzania among Africa's leading tourism destinations through sustainable development, enhanced destination marketing and diversified tourism experiences.
