Tanzania Launches AI Tourism Chatbot Ahead of AFCON 2027

Tanzania has launched the Tanzania Travel Companion, an AI-powered tourism platform supporting more than 56 international languages, as part of the government's Digital Destination Marketing and Communication Centre (DDMCC) initiative. The platform was announced by Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Dr Ashatu Kijaji during the tabling of the ministry's 2026/2027 budget estimates in the National Assembly. The system allows visitors to access destination information, book accommodation, transport and attractions, and receive real-time assistance through a single integrated digital interface.

The launch comes as Tanzania positions itself as a leading African tourism destination ahead of co-hosting AFCON 2027 with Kenya and Uganda. The country recorded 5.9 million tourist arrivals in 2025, with tourism earnings rising from $3.9 billion to $4.4 billion over the same period. Alongside the travel platform, the ministry also introduced the Problem Animals Information System (PAIS), which has reduced wildlife conflict compensation processing times from up to 12 months to as little as 14 days, improving transparency and accountability in revenue and claims management.
