Tanzania Courts South Korean Tourists with Seoul Roadshow
Tanzania has identified South Korea as a priority market under its Go Eastern Strategy, hosting a Destination Tanzania Roadshow in Seoul this week to attract Korean tourists, business partnerships and investment. The event, organised by the Tanzania Tourist Board and the Embassy of Tanzania, drew more than 30 Korean travel agencies and featured presentations on the country's key attractions, including the Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, the Ngorongoro Crater and Olduvai Gorge. Tanzania currently welcomes more than 9,000 Korean visitors annually, a figure officials are looking to grow significantly.
Senior tourism officer George Mwagane highlighted that approximately 32% of Tanzania's land is protected for conservation and tourism, underlining the country's commitment to sustainable development, and promoted the Swahili International Tourism Expo scheduled for October. While industry representatives noted growing Korean demand for long-haul and experiential travel in Africa, local travel operators identified limited information on visa requirements and yellow fever vaccination protocols as barriers to growth. The Seoul Tourism Association pledged to expand cooperation with the Tanzania Tourist Board and strengthen private-sector exchanges between the two countries.
