Tanzania and Zambia Advance Aviation Cooperation at ICAO Assembly
Tanzania and Zambia have agreed to deepen aviation collaboration following a high-level bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the ICAO Assembly in Montreal on 2 October. Led by the Directors General of their respective civil aviation authorities, the discussions focused on reviewing the existing Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), with both parties agreeing to finalise updates— including 5th Freedom Traffic Rights—during the upcoming ICAO ICAN2025 event.
Progress was also made toward a joint Memorandum of Understanding on Search and Rescue (SAR), aimed at boosting coordination ahead of ICAO’s Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme. Tanzania invited Zambia to join a key air law workshop in Dar es Salaam this November. The meeting reaffirmed both countries' commitment to strengthening safety oversight, regional connectivity, and compliance with global aviation standards—developments expected to support sustained growth in African air travel.
