South African Tourism has appointed Sydney-based tourism marketing specialist Gate 7 as its public relations and communications agency for Australia and New Zealand, following a competitive tender. The agency will work alongside South African Tourism's local team across earned media, social media, and broader communications, with a focus on building awareness and driving visitation from both markets. The appointment follows strong inbound performance, with Australian arrivals to South Africa reaching 121,000 in 2025 - up 23.2 per cent year-on-year and ahead of pre-pandemic levels - while New Zealand arrivals grew 15.8 per cent over the same period.

Gate 7's remit will include highlighting accessibility to South Africa, including direct flights from Sydney and Perth and one-stop connections across the region, as well as positioning Johannesburg as a destination in its own right through its growing art, history, and food offering. Campaigns will target both first-time and repeat travellers, with nature-based travel, cultural experiences, and multi-region itineraries identified as key areas of demand from Australian and New Zealand outbound markets. Gate 7 founder and managing director Jo Palmer said South Africa offers "depth, diversity and exceptional value," adding that the agency looks forward to bringing these stories to life in a way that feels inspiring and within reach for travellers across the region.
