South Africa will host the G20’s first virtual Tourism Working Group (TWG) meeting on 5th March 2025, bringing together officials and experts to discuss sustainable tourism growth among member nations. This meeting is the first in a series leading up to the G20 Tourism Ministers' Meeting in September, aiming to share best practices and develop actionable strategies aligned with G20 tourism priorities. Key focus areas include AI-driven innovation in tourism, financing for sustainable development, air connectivity improvements, and resilience in tourism growth.

As the first African nation to lead the G20 presidency, South Africa will use its term to support a developmental agenda benefiting the continent under the theme "Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability." Subsequent in-person G20 tourism meetings will include the 2nd TWG meeting in KwaZulu-Natal (11–13 May 2025), the 3rd TWG meeting in Mpumalanga (10–11 September 2025), followed by the G20 Tourism Ministers' Meeting on 12th September 2025, also in Mpumalanga. These discussions are expected to shape global policies for a more inclusive and sustainable tourism sector.
