South Africa Readies for Meetings Africa 2025
South Africa is gearing up to host the 19th Meetings Africa conference from 25 to 26 February 2025 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. Organised by South African Tourism in partnership with the Gauteng Tourism Authority and Johannesburg Tourism, the event will spotlight the continent’s diverse destinations under the theme "Africa’s success built on quality connections." Designed as a platform for business networking, knowledge sharing, and cross-sector collaboration, the event is expected to strengthen Africa's position in the global MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry. Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille highlighted Meetings Africa’s role in driving investment and job creation across Africa while showcasing the region’s potential as a premier business events destination.
This year’s event follows a successful precedent, with an economic impact assessment revealing that last year’s Meetings Africa brought in R145 million in direct expenditure, a 13% increase from 2023. Adding to its significance, 2025 will also see South Africa host the G20 Summit, marking the first time this event will take place on African soil. The summit will attract over 40 heads of state and facilitate discussions on solidarity, equality, and sustainability, further solidifying South Africa's global standing in business and tourism sectors. With these two landmark events set to unfold, the country aims to position itself as a leader in hosting world-class conferences, reinforcing its reputation as a safe, innovative, and interconnected destination for global business gatherings.
