South Africa Confirms New SA Tourism Board
South Africa's Cabinet has approved the appointment of a new South African Tourism (SA Tourism) Board, effective 11 August 2026, bringing to a close the interim Board's term. The 11-member Board, appointed for three years under section 13 of the Tourism Act, 2014 (Act No. 3 of 2014), includes Ms Akona Nobulali Matsau as Deputy Chairperson, alongside members drawn from tourism, finance, governance, digital transformation and public-sector backgrounds. The appointment of a permanent Chairperson is still pending, with the name to be published in the Government Gazette following Cabinet concurrence.
Minister Patricia de Lille welcomed the announcement, noting that the Board has been constituted with a deliberate emphasis on skills, diversity and complementary expertise to support SA Tourism's strategic mandate. The confirmed Board is expected to oversee implementation of the Tourism Growth Partnership Plan, strengthen financial governance and advance destination competitiveness. SA Tourism, the country's official destination marketing organisation, is tasked with growing visitor arrivals, stimulating investment and contributing to inclusive economic growth.
