Seychelles Pushes for Visa-Free Access for Japanese Passport Holders

Seychelles is pushing for a visa waiver agreement with Japan to cover holders of ordinary passports, Foreign Affairs Minister Barry Faure announced following a meeting with Oue Sadamasa, special adviser to the Japanese prime minister. The move builds on ongoing negotiations already close to conclusion for diplomatic and official passport holders, with Seychelles looking to extend that arrangement to all Seychellois citizens.

Minister Faure noted that broadening the agreement would strengthen people-to-people ties and deepen bilateral cooperation between the two nations - a development with clear implications for tourism flows between the Indian Ocean archipelago and Japan. The discussions also touched on upcoming international events in Japan, including the Small Island States Summit and the 2027 International Horticultural Expo, both seen as platforms to advance Seychelles' global engagement. Faure additionally expressed appreciation for Japan's support in funding the construction of Seychelles' maritime police headquarters in Perseverance.
