The Henley Passport Index has released its 2025 rankings, with Seychelles maintaining its position as Africa's most powerful passport, offering visa-free access to 156 destinations worldwide and ranking 25th globally. Mauritius follows closely in second place among African nations, ranking 29th globally with 151 visa-free destinations, while South Africa secures third position on the continent with access to 106 destinations.

The index, based on International Air Transport Association (IATA) data, reveals significant disparities in travel freedom across Africa. While Botswana and Namibia round out the continent's top five with 88 and 81 visa-free destinations respectively, several African nations, particularly those affected by conflict, rank among the world's most restricted passports. The rankings highlight the continuing correlation between economic stability, diplomatic relations, and international mobility across the continent.
