The third edition of the Travel, Hospitality & Tourism Education Summit officially opened today, 7 April, at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Zambia. Running until 9 April 2025, the summit is jointly organised by the Zambia Institute for Tourism and Hospitality Studies (ZITHS) and UN Tourism. Under the theme “Understanding the Knowledge and Skills Gaps in Africa’s Trade in Services Industry,” the event seeks to align tourism education with workforce demands under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.

The summit brings together policymakers, academic institutions, development partners, and tourism sector stakeholders across Africa to explore strategies for workforce development in tourism services. Key sessions include the presentation of the UN Tourism Education Guidelines and high-level discussions on tourism skills development, industry collaboration, and curriculum reform. With participation from UN Tourism officials, African governments, and representatives from institutions such as EHL Hospitality Business School and Kenya Utalii College, the event highlights Zambia’s focus on tourism as a pillar of economic growth under its Eighth National Development Plan.
