Nigeria’s passport climbs global rankings with wider visa-free access

Nigeria’s passport has recorded an improvement in global mobility rankings, with Nigerian citizens now able to access more countries through visa-free, visa-on-arrival and electronic travel authorisation systems. Recent passport index updates place Nigeria between 88th and 95th globally, depending on the ranking methodology used, with access to approximately 44–46 destinations without a traditional visa process.

The development reflects gradual progress in international travel access for Nigerian passport holders, particularly within Africa and parts of the Caribbean and Pacific regions. While major travel markets in Europe and North America still require visas, the broader expansion of simplified entry systems is expected to support tourism, business travel and regional mobility across emerging markets.
