Kenya Airports Authority tenders JKIA taxi‑hailing platform
Kenya Airports Authority has invited bids under a public–private partnership to design, build and operate a KAA‑branded taxi dispatch platform for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The system – limited to vetted yellow cabs – will allow bookings via mobile app, web portal and airport kiosks, with the winning operator remitting a share of fares to KAA. The authority expects the service to go live within three months of contract signing, positioning it to challenge ride‑hailing incumbents at Kenya’s busiest gateway.
Planned features include real‑time fare estimates, vehicle tracking, trip notifications and an automatic dispatch engine managing queues across terminals. GPS‑based geofencing will confine pickups to approved zones, supporting orderly operations, alongside surge pricing and advance bookings. KAA aims to diversify revenue beyond aeronautical fees – JKIA handled 6.8 million international and 2.1 million domestic passengers in 2024 – and may later extend the platform to duty‑free shopping, parking, lounge bookings and in‑airport navigation, with additional income from digital advertising.
