Green Safaris Conservation: 2024 in Numbers, Where Wild Places Thrive and Communities Flourish
In 2024, the Green Safaris Conservation Foundation invested over $395,000 into the beating heart of Zambia and Malawi, conserving wilderness and uplifting the communities that call these places home. Our annual report does not just tally figures; it tells the story of lives changed, forests reborn, and futures safeguarded.
Highlights from 2024:
Conservation with Impact
- 18,800 trees were planted across Likoma Island, and 2,335 bamboo trees were planted in Mulendema chiefdom, creating a living green army against deforestation.
- 8 check dams were built in Kafue to keep water flowing during droughts.
- $75,000 was directed to vital partners, including Conservation South Luangwa, Panthera, and African Parks, to ensure wildlife thrives where rivers meet savannah.
Communities Cultivating Resilience
- 12.6 hectares farmed at Mukuni Community Farm, producing 25 diverse crops and training 20 farmers in sustainable agriculture.
- 6 nursery schools funded, alongside scholarships for 60 secondary students and university support for 12 more.
- $3,000 worth of learning materials donated to the Chima, Nkhwazi and St Peter’s Primary school, plus, $10,000 in medical supplies and computers donated to St Peter’s Hospital on Likoma to ensure classrooms and clinics remain as vital as the ecosystems surrounding them.
Innovation for People and Planet
- Sustainable stoves reduce charcoal dependency, creating carbon credits that offset almost all Green Safaris guest flights in Zambia.
- Farm-to-table initiatives save 850,000 litres of water each year, and e-boats, e-cruisers, and e-bikes glide silently through rivers and bush, powered by the African sun.
- A management team that is 60 per cent women-led, reflecting our belief that conservation’s strongest roots grow when communities are inclusive.
These numbers are more than statistics. They are seeds of hope, meals on tables, classrooms filled, and forests reawakening. Each guest who chooses a Green Safaris lodge is not just exploring Africa’s wild spaces but directly fuelling this renewal circle.
