FlySafair Granted 12-Month Reprieve to Resolve Licensing Dispute
FlySafair has confirmed that its operations will continue without disruption following a ruling by South Africa’s Air Services Licensing Council (ASLC). The council determined that the airline does not fully meet the requirement that 75% of its voting rights be held by South African residents but has granted a 12-month period for compliance. During this time, FlySafair must submit monthly progress reports while evaluating options, including potential shareholder adjustments or a legal challenge.
The dispute arose from a complaint by Global Aviation, trading as Lift Airline, regarding FlySafair’s adherence to nationality regulations. Despite the ruling, FlySafair assured customers that flights remain unaffected, stating the issue is a regulatory matter rather than an operational concern. The airline has committed to working towards compliance while maintaining uninterrupted service for passengers.
