Fire Damages Lower Sabie Retail Shop as Restaurant Closes Due to Power Disruption

A fire broke out on the morning of Tuesday 21 April at Lower Sabie Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park, directly affecting the camp's retail shop. SANParks has confirmed that guest accommodation was not impacted and that the camp remains fully booked for the upcoming Freedom Day (27 April) and Workers' Day (1 May) long weekends. Guided game drives and walks are continuing as normal, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.

While the restaurant did not sustain fire damage, it will remain closed due to power disruptions caused by the incident, with SANParks working to implement temporary retail, food, and beverage services as soon as possible. Guests with upcoming bookings are advised to stock up on supplies before arrival or source essentials such as wood and ice from nearby camps including Skukuza, Crocodile Bridge, Satara, Tshokwane, or Nkuhlu. SANParks has urged all guests to stay clear of the affected area for safety reasons while assessments continue.
