Ethiopia scales up tourism projects to boost global appeal
Ethiopia is expanding government‑backed tourism developments to position the country as a global destination, with six years of investment under the Dine for Ethiopia initiative, state news agency ENA reported on 14 December. Flagship projects include Halala Kela Resort, Wonchi Eco‑Tourism and Gorgora Resorts and Lodges, alongside modern lodges and resorts in Addis Ababa and across the regions.
New sites such as Beynouna Village and Elephant Paw Lodge in Chebera Churchura National Park aim to enhance visitor experiences and support local economies through eco‑tourism. The programme – led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed – seeks to blend heritage with modern infrastructure and tap projected global tourism growth, with ENA citing forecasts of more than US$16 trillion in revenue and about 450 million jobs over the next decade.
