Egypt’s new ambassador accredited in Seychelles – tourism links in focus

Seychelles has accredited Egypt’s new ambassador, Hatem Yousri Hosni, following a credentials ceremony at State House on 21 January 2026. President Patrick Herminie and Ambassador Hosni discussed deepening cooperation – notably in tourism – including a proposal to appoint a Seychelles Tourism Ambassador in Cairo, joint promotions, enhanced air connectivity and cultural tourism to grow Egyptian arrivals as the two countries mark 50 years of diplomatic ties in 2026.

Talks also covered health collaboration on training, specialist exchanges and pharmaceutical investment, as well as sports cooperation in football through friendlies, player pathways and potential engagement of Egyptian coaches. President Herminie raised the repatriation of two Seychellois nationals serving sentences in Egypt, with the ambassador noting the matter sits with justice authorities. Ambassador Hosni, who will be based in Nairobi, also met Vice‑President Sebastien Pillay.
