Data MoU to drive Nigeria’s tourism planning
Nigeria’s National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create a coordinated, reliable data framework for the country’s hospitality, travel and tourism sector. The partnership targets long-standing gaps in data collection and analysis to support planning, investment and competitiveness.
Under the agreement, the agencies will jointly compile and publish statistics across accommodation, transport, events and recreation, culinary tourism, destination experiences and workforce trends, alongside capacity building and a shared tourism intelligence system. With the festive season – typically Nigeria’s peak domestic travel period – approaching, they will track visitor flows, spending and labour mobility, aligning outputs with national efforts to diversify the economy and raise professional standards.
