Photographer of the Year 2024 winners get to help free-roaming lions. In addition to winning a conservation safari to Hwange, each winner will have lion research collars, valued at US$7,500, sponsored in their name.

Africa Geographic’s Photographer of the Year 2024 is now open for entries, and this year’s winners will be granted the opportunity to make a tangible impact on lion conservation in Africa.

The 2024 competition will run with one significant change to the previous editions: Each of the three winners (the overall winner plus two runners-up) will become a personal sponsor of a wild Hwange lion research collar. Africa Geographic has paid for these sponsorships – to the value of US$2,500 each. The sponsors will receive feedback and updates on the lion collared in their name.

In addition, the three winners and their partners will join CEO Simon Espley on a conservation safari in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, staying at Bomani Tented Lodge and Camelthorn Lodge. The winners’ safari will be accompanied by Southern African Conservation Trust chairperson Brian Courtenay and a WILDCRU researcher, who will provide winners with in-depth insight into the conservation of free-roaming lions in the region. In addition to many game-drive G&T moments, the group will get to understand the issues facing lions and what is being done by NGOs and local people to protect them.

The annual photographic competition is a celebration of Africa, with entrants contributing breathtaking images of the continent, from wildlife action and safari experiences to African culture and landscapes.

Africa Geographic is about TRAVEL and CONSERVATION – for those who want their safaris and donations to make a real difference – in Africa.
