Overview

The Flying Doctors’ Society of Africa (FDSA) is a charitable organization that was set up in 1971 to raise funds to enhance medical outreach and improve access to medical emergency services in Africa. The primary fundraising tool for FDSA is a membership subscription. Our memberships are both annual and short-term (2 weeks to 2 months), membership covers the whole of East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi). As a member of the FDSA, you are entitled to free unlimited Air Medical Evacuation service in case of a life-threatening emergency that would necessitate the use of an air ambulance to transport you to a medical facility in Nairobi. All unutilized membership subscriptions are used to support our Obstetric Fistula program outreach.

Obstetric Fistula / Female Genital Fistula –FGF condition manifests itself as an abnormal communication between the urinary bladder and vagina, which leads to uncontrolled, continuous leakage of urine and/or faecal matter. Our intervention strives to reduce the effects of untreated fistula to the women such as stigma, discrimination, isolation, and family breakdown enabling the women to contribute to community’s growth. We collaborate with different partners in mobilization, build medical capacity; offer free reconstructive surgeries to women with Fistula.
