Overview

The National Tourist Board of Sierra Leone is the pre-eminent official organisation for tourism to Sierra Leone, with the aim of increasing travellers to the destination. The National Tourist Board is working to establish Sierra Leone’s emerging tourist industry to enhance socio-economic development, with a particular emphasis on eco-tourism.

Sierra Leone is one of Africa's lesser-known gems, with long stretches of world-class beach, pristine forest, exceptional wildlife and a fascinating history and culture. Sierra Leone’s potential is vast and with continuing improvements to the supporting infrastructures, facilities, sites, attractions and service quality, this undiscovered paradise has something special to offer to all our special visitors.

The National Tourist Board was established by an Act of Parliament in 1990 and started operations in 1991. It is a semi-autonomous body and the professional arm of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. The Board’s main objective is to enhance the development of Sierra Leone’s tourism opportunities and market Sierra Leone worldwide as an attractive tourist destination. It is also tasked with developing and promoting sustainable tourism development and maintaining the operations of all tourist establishments to ensure quality service delivery in compliance with the ECOWAS standards of classification of tourist establishments.
