Eco Children

Eco Children is a non-profit organisation, initiated by the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, which focusses on hands-on environmental education and whole school development. Eco Children operates in Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces in north east South Africa, areas with some of the country's most severe social and environmental issues. By stimulating an interest in nature and improving learning environments, we strive to have a positive impact on environmental awareness and education amongst the youth in these areas, leading to better conservation and economic outcomes for South Africa.

Strandloper Project

Website https://strandloperproject.org

The Strandloper Project started with concerned local citizens who organised a reef clean-up dive near Sedgefield in the Garden Route region of South Africa. They realised that lost & discarded recreational fishing tackle ('ghostfishing') was causing threats to marine flora & fauna. Since then, they continue to focus on reef & beach clean-ups, including many dives and a yearly trek along a couple hundred kilometres of coastline, and have also spearheaded a research methodology for categorising the density and distribution of plastics in order to ascertain the source of these plastics, so that solutions to the problem can be found. The Strandloper Project also focusses on public awareness and hands-on community involvement in tackling the issues of ghostfishing & plastic waste, and their threats to our marine life & biodiversity.
