WWF Tanzania launches 150bn/- plan for 2026–2030 conservation drive

WWF Tanzania has launched a five‑year Country Strategic Plan (CSP‑III) in Dar es Salaam – running to 2030 – backed by 150bn/- to address natural resource degradation, biodiversity loss and climate vulnerability. The strategy prioritises integrated, community‑led conservation across four priority areas: Ruvuma Transboundary Landscape, Soknot Transboundary Landscape, Rufiji‑Mafia‑Kilwa (RUMAKI) Plus Seascape and the Water Towers Landscape, aiming to halt ecosystem decline and strengthen livelihoods that depend on healthy forests, coasts and freshwater systems.

Funding will support habitat restoration, species protection and climate resilience, alongside efforts to cut carbon footprints in agriculture, energy and fisheries. With Tanzania losing about 469,000 hectares of forest annually and marine habitats under pressure, the plan emphasises partnerships with government, private sector and communities to improve connectivity, reduce human–wildlife conflict and safeguard mangroves, coral reefs and key wildlife ranges – underpinning nature‑based tourism and long‑term socio‑economic benefits.
