WWF Launches Environmental Awareness Campaign in Tanzania

Tanzania’s Kisarawe District has launched the ‘Ishi Kijanja’ campaign, led by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), to promote environmental conservation and clean energy adoption. Speaking at the launch at Jokate Mwegelo School in the Pwani Region, Kisarawe District Commissioner Petro Magoti urged young people to take an active role in protecting the environment, including planting trees in schools. As part of the initiative, WWF donated two clean cooking stoves with a 200-litre capacity, aligning with Tanzania’s target of 80% clean energy adoption by 2034.
WWF Director Yohanna Mpagama highlighted the organisation’s ongoing collaboration with schools on tree-planting initiatives and clean energy advocacy. The campaign supports Tanzania’s broader environmental goals of reducing deforestation and mitigating climate change. In recognition of student achievements, the government also awarded food supplies to Jokate Mwegelo School. The initiative demonstrates the potential for education and sustainability efforts to work together, fostering environmental stewardship among Tanzania’s youth.
