Uthando Launches Pitch for Peace with We Are Africa and Vicky Sampson
Cape Town, South Africa – The Heideveld community will come alive on Saturday, 1 August 2026, as Uthando South Africa and We Are Africa officially unveil the new Pitch for Peace – sponsored by We Are Africa – during a free community music & soccer festival headlined by South African music icon Vicky Sampson.
The event will celebrate the transformative power of music, sport and community collaboration, bringing residents, partners and supporters together to mark the opening of a vibrant new recreational space designed to inspire hope, connection and opportunity.
"This project is about far more than building a soccer pitch," said Ryan Wallace, Managing Director and Co-founder of We Are Africa. "It is about creating opportunities, inspiring young people, and demonstrating what is possible when organisations, communities, and partners work together to invest in a better future.
We are also pleased to share that Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille will attend the opening ceremony in recognition of the incredible work Uthando and the community have done to bring this project to life."
Guests can look forward to an exciting morning of live music, youth performances, family-friendly entertainment and the official opening of the new 5-a-side soccer pitch. The celebrations will culminate in girls' and boys' exhibition soccer matches, showcasing local talent and the positive impact of accessible sporting facilities.

The Pitch for Peace forms part of Uthando South Africa's Waste to Wonder campaign, an innovative initiative that transforms discarded tyres into colourful, safe and sustainable sports pitches for children and young people in underserved communities. Beyond creating spaces for play, the programme equips local participants with sustainable construction skills while generating employment opportunities, ensuring lasting social and environmental benefits.
Pitch for Peace demonstrates how creative environmental solutions can help build stronger communities by creating safe spaces where young people develop confidence, teamwork, resilience and a sense of belonging.
