USVI and Ghana formalise tourism partnership

The US Virgin Islands and Ghana have signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation in tourism, trade and diaspora engagement. The agreement was signed on 27 January 2026 during the USVI–Africa Mini Summit at the Westin Frenchman’s Reef Resort by USVI Governor Albert Bryan Jr and Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, formalising a relationship aimed at reconnecting the territory with West Africa.

Officials highlighted priorities including community‑based tourism, exchange programmes and collaborative storytelling around shared heritage. Bryan said tangible outcomes are expected later this year – likely from the second quarter – as partners develop projects and investment links. The move reflects growing demand for culturally aware, experience‑led travel and strengthens Africa–Caribbean ties relevant to itinerary development and market diversification.
