Uganda and UAE implement visa waiver for official travel

Uganda and the United Arab Emirates have begun implementing a bilateral visa waiver that has entered into force following ratification by both governments. The agreement allows reciprocal visa‑free travel for holders of diplomatic and service passports for stays of up to 90 days, while UAE nationals with diplomatic, special, ordinary and service passports are exempt from visas to enter Uganda for up to 90 days.

Ugandan ordinary passport holders remain subject to standard UAE visa procedures, with visa‑free entry to the UAE limited to Ugandan diplomatic and service passport holders for up to 90 days within any 180‑day period. The waiver for eligible UAE travellers entering Uganda took effect on 10 February 2026, with immigration authorities noting that routine entry requirements – including a valid passport and, where applicable, proof of onward or return travel – continue to apply.
