The First Group Hospitality and MIDROC Sign Deal for 10 Hotels Across Ethiopia
The First Group Hospitality and MIDROC Investment Group have signed a master agreement to develop and operate 10 hospitality properties across Ethiopia, adding approximately 1,140 rooms to the market between 2026 and 2031. The deal, formalised at the Future Hospitality Summit Africa in Nairobi, covers a mix of independent and Marriott-branded franchised hotels across key urban and gateway destinations including Addis Ababa, Hawassa, Bahir Dar, Jimma, Langano and Danbi.
The agreement supports The First Group Hospitality's strategy to expand its third-party and white-label management platform across Africa, while strengthening MIDROC's hospitality operations in its home market. David Thomson, Senior Vice President - Development at The First Group Hospitality, described Ethiopia as one of East Africa's most compelling hospitality growth markets, citing ongoing investment in tourism and infrastructure. MIDROC Deputy CEO Solomon Zewdu added that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to sustainable tourism growth, Ethiopian talent development and showcasing the country's cultural heritage through authentic hospitality experiences.
