Tanzania lifts 20-year visa restrictions, easing travel for Sri Lankans
Sri Lanka has been officially removed from Tanzania's referral visa list, a status that had been in place for over two decades, according to High Commissioner Kana Kananathan. This significant change comes after sustained diplomatic efforts by Sri Lanka's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the High Commission in Kenya, including high-level discussions with the Tanzanian government.
The decision marks a major shift in travel procedures for Sri Lankans visiting Tanzania. Travellers can now apply for regular visas online, eliminating the additional steps and extended waiting periods previously required under the referral visa process.
This change is expected to greatly facilitate travel and enhance convenience for Sri Lankans visiting Tanzania for business, tourism, or other purposes. The High Commission expressed gratitude to the Tanzanian government for this positive development, viewing it as a reflection of the strong partnership and mutual respect between the two nations.
High Commissioner Kananathan encouraged Sri Lankans to take full advantage of this opportunity while continuing to uphold high standards of conduct abroad.
