Takims Holidays is pleased to announce it has received a formal commendation from the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA), recognizing over 10 years of dedicated work along the historic southern coast of Tanzania. This recognition highlights the company’s success in managing specialized logistics required to bring international cruise ship guests to the legendary Ruins of Kilwa Kisiwani and Songo Mnara. For more than a decade, Takims Holidays has collaborated with local authorities to ensure these remote UNESCO World Heritage sites remain accessible, providing a vital gateway to Tanzania’s coastal heritage.

The commendation from TAWA reflects a long-standing partnership focused on elevating the profile of Tanzania’s southern treasures and supporting the preservation of its cultural landmarks. By maintaining consistent operations in the Kilwa region, Takims Holidays continues to bridge the gap between conservation and high-quality tourism, bringing global attention to the country’s coastal legacy. The team remains committed to sharing the historical depth and unique beauty of the south, ensuring it stands as a premier destination for travelers seeking an authentic connection to the past.

From the 9th to the 19th century Kilwa was the capital of a powerful Swahili city-state whose influence once stretched from modern-day Kenya to Mozambique. The site was crucial in trade between Africa, Arabia, India and China. Kilwa even minted its own currency from the 11th to 14th centuries. The famed Moroccan traveler described Kilwa in the early 14th century as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, underscoring its former prominence.  Kilwa appeals to cultural heritage tourists, history professionals and adventurous travellers seeking less-visited, high-value experiences.
