TAAG Angola Airlines Welcomes Its First Boeing 787 Dreamliner
TAAG Angola Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the first of four on order, as part of its fleet modernisation efforts. The fuel-efficient widebody aircraft, leased from AerCap, arrived in Luanda just ahead of Angola’s Liberation Day celebrations. This milestone marks nearly 50 years since the airline acquired its first Boeing aircraft. The delivery also debuts TAAG’s new livery and sets the stage for an expanded long-haul network, with plans to launch additional routes to Europe and new destinations in Asia and North America.
The 787 Dreamliner is a cornerstone of TAAG Angola Airlines’ strategy to enhance its fleet while reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 25%. CEO Nelson Pedro Rodrigues de Oliveira called the delivery a "pivotal step" in addressing growing market demand and replacing the airline's ageing widebody fleet. Currently operating Boeing 737s and 777s on routes to 12 destinations in Africa, Europe, South America, and China, the introduction of the 787 will strengthen TAAG's regional and international connectivity. In collaboration with Boeing, TAAG is also using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to enhance its sustainability efforts, reflecting a broader industry commitment to environmentally conscious aviation.
