Sossusvlei and Deadvlei tighten access
Namibia’s Sossusvlei and Deadvlei in the Namib‑Naukluft National Park will introduce stricter access rules from 15 December 2025, with all private vehicles restricted to the 2×4 parking area. Beyond this point, only the official concession shuttle or authorised guided vehicles operated by NTB‑registered lodges and tour operators may enter the 4×4 zone. Announced by About Africa with MEFT, the changes aim to protect the UNESCO‑listed Namib Sand Sea, reduce congestion and improve visitor safety.
For travellers and the trade, the shift means itineraries must include a transfer for the final sector to the pans. Pre‑booking and on‑site card payments will be available, and from January 2026 the return shuttle is priced at N$260 per adult and N$130 for children under 12, with SADC rates under discussion. Operators are advised to confirm authorised access arrangements in advance to ensure smooth visits during peak periods.
