Shenton Safaris Unveils River Song Star Bed at Kaingo Camp
Shenton Safaris, a name synonymous with authentic safari experiences, is proud to announce the unveiling of River Song, an extraordinary new star bed experience at Kaingo Camp that invites guests to spend a night immersed in the sights, sounds and serenity of the Luangwa Valley.
For over 33 years, Shenton Safaris has welcomed travellers seeking meaningful encounters in one of Africa’s greatest wildlife destinations. Following the successful relaunch of the Numbu Star Bed at Mwamba Bush Camp in 2025, River Song now offers Kaingo guests their own unique opportunity to experience the magic of sleeping beneath Zambia’s vast night skies.
River Song has been thoughtfully designed to celebrate its spectacular setting along the banks of the Luangwa River. Tucked away from the main camp and surrounded by riverine woodland, the experience combines complete immersion in nature with the comfort and attention to detail for which Shenton Safaris is renowned.
The experience unfolds across two levels:
Lower Deck: A private riverside retreat featuring comfortable seating and uninterrupted views across the Luangwa River – the perfect place to relax over a wonderful private dinner as the colours of sunset reflect across the water.
Upper Deck: An elevated open-air bedroom where guests sleep beneath a canopy of stars, protected by a flowing mosquito net and accompanied by the sounds of the African night. Added luxuries include a private bathroom, vanity and a freestanding outdoor bathtub overlooking the river.
As darkness falls, the valley comes alive. The deep grunts of hippos drift across the water, owls call from the trees overhead and distant lions announce their presence from beyond the riverbanks. With uninterrupted views stretching across the riverfront, River Song offers a sensory-rich wilderness experience unlike any other.
For guest safety and peace of mind, an armed scout and guide remain nearby throughout the night, with radio contact available at all times. Guests are encouraged to bring only essential personal items, while their remaining belongings stay securely in their room at Kaingo Camp.
