In a remarkable milestone for conservation, South African National Parks (SANParks) has completed the incorporation of crucial land into Table Mountain National Park, establishing a vital ecological corridor between Noordhoek and Kommetjie. Celebrated at a recent handover event on 22 October 2024, this achievement enhances biodiversity and strengthens the park's ecological integrity by linking its Central and Southern sections for future generations.

The journey began with the establishment of the park in 1998, which faced challenges in creating a functional ecological linkage across the ‘Noordhoek – Fish Hoek gap’. After extensive collaboration with landowners and stakeholders, SANParks successfully acquired 439 hectares of wetland properties, which became part of the park and the Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site.

Restoration efforts are underway to clear alien vegetation and promote the return of endangered fynbos species to the area.
