SA Tourism appoints Corne Koch to lead National Convention Bureau
South African Tourism has announced the appointment of Corne Koch as Chief Convention Bureau Officer to head the South African National Convention Bureau, effective 1 December 2025. The move comes as South Africa showcases its business events capability at IBTM World 2025 in Barcelona, with the Bureau mandated to attract MICE events and support economic growth and competitiveness.
In the first two quarters of 2025, the Bureau secured 35 bids worth more than R415 million, drawing nearly 16,000 delegates. Koch brings over 20 years’ experience in destination marketing, most recently as Head of the Cape Town and Western Cape Convention Bureau at Wesgro. The appointment aligns with preparations for major business events, including the G20 Leaders’ Summit, and precedes sector milestones such as Meetings Africa in February 2026 and Africa’s Travel Indaba in May 2026.
