Queen Anne call underscores Durban’s luxury cruise role

Cunard’s newest flagship, Queen Anne, called at Durban on Wednesday – her final South African port on the current World Cruise before continuing across the Indian Ocean. The visit, following earlier calls at Cape Town and Gqeberha, underlines Durban’s position as a gateway linking Southern Africa with luxury cruise itineraries to the Indian Ocean and Asia-Pacific.

Launched in 2024, the nearly 3,000‑passenger vessel departed Cape Town on 31 January and now sails east via Réunion, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and South‑east Asia, reinforcing South Africa’s role on eastbound cruise corridors. Local authorities note meaningful tourism and hospitality spend from such calls, while Cunard’s South African season continues – Queen Mary 2 is due in Durban on 6 April – alongside Cape Town departures offering 22–45‑night itineraries to Singapore, Hong Kong and Sydney.
