ON INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CHARITY, SEAS4LIFE HIGHLIGHTS ITS FOUNDATION AND BENEFICIARIES

Seas4Life, the experiential ocean and land-based safari company, headed by leading female conservationist and marine expert Julie Church, believes that travel broadens the mind but is fundamental to creating a connection and better understanding of the ocean. International Day of Charity, designated by the United Nations General Assembly to recognise the global importance of charitable activities and humanitarian efforts, is celebrated on the 5th of September, and Seas4Life, through its foundation, is using ocean literacy as the entry point through their conservation partners, to connect local schools, fishers, and community women to the value of a healthy ocean.

As Seas4life Foundation develops an ocean literacy and mentorship programme, it is currently supporting practical field-based educational activities with its Kenyan coastal partners, following a recent review of what is needed immediately to support ongoing conservation efforts.

The Seas4Life Foundation aims to support local conservation partners in their marine education efforts through fundraising for:

  • Local schools to participate in education snorkelling excursions in the Kwale and Kilifi areas
  • Local schools to participate in swimming lessons to ensure they are safe and connected to the ocean.
  • Local community ocean-focused excursions to our conservation partner, Oceans Alive, and its associated local marine protected area, Kuruwitu, to see how local marine protection can create jobs and support education.
Seas4Life, through its education travel experiences, works with private schools in Kenya and curates week-long experiences that connect secondary school children to the Kenyan coastline on a journey from Watamu to Diani, visiting different marine protected areas, conservation initiatives and learning from the experts.

The Seas4Life internship programme delivers a 360° ocean-based education for any ocean-lover, including dive training, marine biology research, and underwater photography/videography.

Deepening awareness, connecting travellers to scientists, raising funds through one-of-a-kind experiences with conservation partners, and gathering funds online are just a few of the ways Seas4Life drives its mission to conserve the Western Indian Ocean.

The work of the ocean safari operator, spearheaded by Julie Church, its Founder and CEO, is a natural evolution of her deep belief that Seas4Life safaris not only immerse travellers in the beauty and richness of the Western Indian Ocean, but also reinforce Julie Church’s belief that travel can be a powerful force for good. Its enriching experiences actively support the ecosystems and communities that make them possible.

A few of Seas4Life’s operations and conservation partners, and initiatives include:

  • Planet Moja: Partners with Seas4Life to offset safari emissions by protecting and restoring blue carbon ecosystems such as mangroves and seagrass beds, vital for climate resilience and marine biodiversity.
  • Oceans Alive: Delivers coral restoration, marine expeditions, volunteer programmes, and environmental and community initiatives that advance marine stewardship and reef health.
  • Bahari Hai: A grassroots organisation based in Watamu, Kenya, focused on sea turtle conservation, including nest monitoring, by-catch mitigation, and underwater monitoring.
  • Community Impact and Conservation Safaris: One-off travel and learning experiences connecting supporters and travellers with scientists, conservationists, and local projects, raising both funds and awareness for marine issues.

Seas4life’s commitment to fostering a deeper understanding, appreciation and respect for the ocean encourages informed and inspired travellers to help protect marine ecosystems through learning, engagement and conservation at every level. Rooted in collaboration, equity and environmental stewardship, the Saes4Life Foundation fosters a thriving Western Indian Ocean Blue Consciousness, encouraging a more informed, responsible and loving relationship with the ocean.

In line with the International Day of Charity, and through the work of its Foundation, Seas4Life aims to honour its relationship to the ocean with purpose, integrity and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.
