New Sections of Namibia’s Key Airport Freeway Officially Open
Namibia has opened key portions of the Dr Hage G. Geingob Freeway, significantly improving road access between Windhoek and Hosea Kutako International Airport. The Roads Authority confirmed that Section 2B, from Dordabis Interchange to the airport, and part of Section 2A, between Sam Nujoma and Otjihase interchanges, are now operational. The newly built Airport Roundabout also became operational in July 2025, enhancing traffic flow for travellers and cargo.
Spanning 45 kilometres, the N$3 billion freeway project is among Namibia’s largest infrastructure investments and aims to cut travel time from the capital to the airport from 45 to 25 minutes once fully completed. The route supports regional trade by linking to the Trans-Kalahari Corridor and is expected to have a notable impact on tourism by offering safer, faster airport transfers. Full completion of Phase 2A is anticipated by the end of September 2025.
