New R80 Billion Developments Coming to South Africa’s KZN Coast
South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal North Coast is poised for a major tourism boost, with eThekwini Municipality announcing up to R80 billion in new private developments and a R22 billion city-led investment to unlock infrastructure and job opportunities over the next three years. The coastal hubs of uMhlanga and Ballito are central to this tourism-driven growth, anchored by the ongoing luxury Oceans mixed-use development, which includes the five-star Radisson Blu Oceans Hotel and Oceans Mall. The newly launched North Oceans Tower and upcoming Southern Sun’s R1.3 billion leisure offering further reinforce the area’s appeal as a high-end destination.
The region is increasingly recognised as a millionaire magnet, now home to over 3,500 high-net-worth individuals, according to the African Wealth Report 2024. Concurrently, global hospitality brands such as Club Med are expanding into the area, with a R2 billion beachfront and safari resort set to launch in Tinley Manor in mid-2026. With high-end property sales surging and rising international interest, KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast is positioned to become a premium destination that blends luxury living, investment potential, and tourism appeal.
