Nairobi Commitment Adopted to Drive Investment in Africa's MICE Industry
Senior government officials, private sector leaders and development finance institutions convened in Nairobi on 22 July for the Africa MICE Investors & Stakeholders Round Table, where participants collectively adopted the Nairobi Commitment on Advancing Africa's MICE Industry. Held at the Trademark Hotel and convened by the Africa MICE Hub, the gathering is described as one of the first of its kind to bring together these stakeholders at a continental level to address the future of the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions sector. The declaration sets out a shared framework to unlock investment, strengthen cross-border partnerships, promote innovation and support enabling policies for a more competitive African MICE ecosystem.
The Nairobi Commitment will serve as a guiding framework for investment priorities and policy dialogue ahead of the Africa MICE Summit & Awards 2026, scheduled for 1 - 2 October in Mombasa, Kenya. A pre-summit programme has also been unveiled, including an Incentive Planner Masterclass on 29 - 30 September, a Bidding for International Events Workshop on 30 September, and an Africa MICE Awards Gala on 2 October. Strategic partners supporting the initiative include Kenya Airways, Safarilink, the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) and the Association of Kenya Business Events (AKBE), signalling a coordinated public-private push to raise Africa's profile as a globally competitive business events destination.
