Mozambique Prioritises Sustainable Development at Africa Tourism Investment Forum

Mozambique’s Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, Roberto Albino, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable development through structural reforms in land use and conservation management. Speaking at the African Diplomatic Tourism and Investment Forum in Maputo on 21 August, Albino called for modern, responsible governance of conservation areas and agricultural land to balance economic growth with environmental protection.

The minister highlighted key advancements, including a revised Land Policy and new legislation aimed at reclaiming unused land rights and improving oversight of conservation concessions. He announced 2025 as a pivotal year for reform, with stronger legislation intended to attract sustainability-focused investment. Measures to mitigate human-wildlife conflict are also being scaled up, alongside efforts to combat illegal mining. Albino emphasised the need for conservation areas to contribute directly to the economy, with locally produced food serving both citizens and visitors within a framework of sustainable development.
