Mozambique festive season draws €22.7m tourism revenue
Mozambique recorded 311,740 tourist arrivals during the festive period from 15 December, generating 1.7 billion meticais (€22.7 million) in revenue, according to a preliminary assessment by the Ministry of the Economy. The total was around 2.3% above forecast, indicating robust seasonal demand across key destinations.
Officials reported 199 New Year events attracting 160,218 participants, with coastal resorts leading demand and occupancy ranging from 33% to 100%, while city hotels trailed. The period was largely calm with normal trading; regulators suspended 93 venues for hygiene and safety breaches and seized 5,400 boxes of spirits, as the private sector noted a rebound in sun‑and‑beach, safari, cultural and nature tourism compared with last year.
