Marriott International has confirmed a strong pipeline of growth across Africa, with plans to add around 50 new hotels, resorts, and safari lodges over the coming years. Speaking at the 2025 Future Hospitality Summit Africa in Cape Town, Karim Cheltout, Senior Vice President of Development for the Middle East & Africa, highlighted increasing investor appetite for hospitality developments on the continent, particularly in high-demand markets such as Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tanzania, and South Africa.

The world’s largest hotel group currently operates approximately 150 properties in Africa, with more than a third located in South Africa, largely under the Protea Hotels by Marriott brand. Its next development phase will introduce roughly 9,000 new rooms, including luxury safari offerings such as the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge and the soon-to-launch Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp in Kenya. Marriott has also confirmed plans for Morea House in Cape Town, an Autograph Collection hotel, as it continues to expand its presence across both urban and experience-led travel segments on the continent.
