Marriott confirms first African EDITION – R1bn Cape Town hotel set for 2026
Marriott International and V&A Waterfront Holdings have signed an agreement to open The Cape Town EDITION at the V&A Waterfront’s Quay 7 district in 2026. The R1 billion development – one of South Africa’s most expensive hotel projects in decades – will mark the EDITION brand’s debut in Africa and include 142 rooms and suites plus six serviced private residences. Planned amenities include a signature rooftop bar, spa, pool and destination dining.
The property forms part of the broader Granger Bay precinct and is designed by Shanghai‑based Neri & Hu with local partner StudioMAS, offering views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill and Table Bay. Marriott executives said the V&A Waterfront location aligns with the group’s growth plans and aims to set a new benchmark for luxury hospitality, while the V&A Waterfront noted rising visitor demand and direct access to nearby retail, restaurants and marine experiences – positioning the hotel as a new high‑end anchor for Cape Town’s tourism economy.
