Malawi names Simon Itaye as tourism minister
President Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed Simon Itaye as Minister of Industrialisation, Business, Trade and Tourism, replacing George Partridge, who becomes Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi. The reshuffle is intended to support Malawi’s economic transformation agenda, with the tourism portfolio central to efforts to boost investment, trade and job creation.
A seasoned private‑sector executive, Itaye has held senior roles including MD and CEO of Packaging Industries (Nampak Malawi) and chair positions at Old Mutual Life Assurance Company (Malawi) and Press Corporation. He holds a BCom from the University of Malawi, is an FCCA fellow and has an MBA from the University of West London, bringing finance, governance and industry experience to the tourism and trade docket.
